A man crowd surfs at the lip critic show

By Wendy

In the summertime, any evening show at O’Brien’s Pub in Allston would be a sweaty affair. Add the tumbling and raucous noise of Lip Critic, Cherub Head, and Cohort B? Prepare to be drenched.

Ilan Natter of Lip Critic told me he was tired and ready to “be in his own bed” after weeks on tour across the country. You couldn’t tell for a second during their rowdy set. For those who don’t know, the band is of a genre they’re calling “Digital Hardcore” which is like if Guerilla Toss was angrier and still played in basements. It’s a scary, glitchy, threatening, sound that exorcises any and all demons and absolutely deserves to haunt a club in Berlin as much as it currently traipses the streets of Bushwick. I would also call this music “entrancing” and “magical”, but I expect that is not something my mother would agree with. Anyway, it sure speaks to the right folks because O’Brien’s was packed. And deservedly so!
